Bookmark Assistant

The Navigation Bar shows you the selected field.  If you are in a sub database, the sub database will be listed first, followed by a  >.  At anytime, you can use the back button to return to your main database.  In Bookmark Assistant, you can search for fields using the Search or Data tabs.  Once you have located the field you want to bookmark, highlight it and click Insert Bookmark.

Date fields, Number fields, Calculated fields, and Image fields will prompt you for formatting options prior to placing the bookmark.  The formatting of the bookmark can differ from the formatting of the actual field.   Once a bookmark is placed, you cannot change the formatting, and would need to remove and replace the bookmark if you wanted the formatting to change.

The Data Tab
If there are multiple fields with the same name, you may want to use the Data tab to ensure that the correct field is being bookmarked.  The Data tab shows a structured layout of the File Type.  Simply expand the folder by clicking on the + next to it.

The Search Tab
Bookmark Assistant will open with the Search tab active.  Simply start typing any part of the field name in the search box, and the list will automatically filter to display only fields that contain what you typed.  This list is sorted alphabetically and grouped by the field type.

Find and Replace
If you are bookmarking an existing report, and will have multiple areas where the same bookmark will be placed, you can use the Find and Replace option.  To do this, highlight the proper field and right click.  Choose Find and Replace and a new window will open.  Whatever text you specify in the Find field will be replaced with a bookmark to the selected field.

Bookmarks to Excel File Picker fields will prompt you to select which sheet to bring in.  Any sheet that is being used must already have an Import Area defined.  To define an import area, open the Excel sheet in Designer.  Highlight the area that you want to merge into your report, and click Define Import Area located in the left pane of Designer.  If you attempt to merge a sheet that does not have an import area defined, Report Builder will generate a message stating that there was no import area for the specified sheet.
